On Saturday at North Sydney Oval the Jets were well beaten by the Newcastle Knights, who trounced Newtown by 44-22 after leading 28-0 at half-time and by 38-0 after 49 minutes. .
In the wake of the previous weekend’s lacklustre performance against the Western Suburbs Magpies, the Newtown Jets travelled to Coogee Oval to take on the third-placed South Sydney Rabbitohs.
Wests Magpies took possession of the Tom Raudonikis Cup for 2026 by defeating the Newtown Jets 28-4 in the 9th round NSW Cup match played at Henson Park on Saturday afternoon.
The Newtown Jets played their first night game at Henson Park for nearly ten years last Saturday, in defeating Canterbury-Bankstown 25-10 in what was an impressive display.
In a game where the fortunes of rugby league football swung wildly in favour of both teams at opposite ends of the match, Newtown won a real thriller against the Sydney Roosters by 33-32, by way of a 79th minute field goal kicked by the Jets halfback Riley Pollard.
Last Saturday’s match at Henson Park brought together the 2024 and the 2025 premiers. The Wahs might have lost several players from last year’s premiership-winning squad, but Saturday’s game was still expected to be a thrilling showdown.

The Newtown Rugby League Football Club is deeply saddened to learn about the death of our long-time club historian, author and essayist, Terry Williams. A Newtown Jets man until the very end, Terry passed away just hours after hosting the club’s 2026 season launch at the Petersham RSL Club. We send our sincere condolences to his family and many friends.
The Newtown Jets were decisively beaten by the Penrith Panthers in their second and final trial match played at Henson Park on Saturday, 21st February.
Billy Magoulias, very much a Henson Park crowd favourite of recent years, has announced his retirement from rugby league. He became the toast of the Inner West in the 2019 Canterbury Cup (the NSW Cup) finals, setting up the winning try in the grand final against Wentworthville at Bankwest Stadium, Parramatta (now CommBank Stadium) in extra time.
